Venus, or Aphrodite, was the Goddess of Love. A goddess indeed! Venus is esoterically the sister planet to our Earth, and is a symbolic link between Heaven and Earth. There's a connection between Venus (along with Neptune) and the angel kingdom, in terms of protection, care, blessing, and inspiration.

Venus turns our attention to Beauty and other ideals, turns our attention to what we love, who we love, expressing our love, that we ARE love, and that all of Life is about Love.

The essence of Venus is the love of ideals. Ideals are the spiritual memories within us of the perfection of our "home universe," the Heavenly abode in the presence of God. We carry the memories of this Heavenly abode, and all information related to it, in our "hearts." It's as if, before we came to Earth, we were bundled up and supplied with everything we would need in a knapsack of treasures, like a child going off to school with coat, backpack, lunch, tissues, everything he might need that day at school, until he returned home again that evening. Now if thechild will remember that he HAS all these supplies, he can use them when needed. So it is with memories of our "home universe": the golden perfection, the ideals, spiritual information, spiritual substance, connections to beings there - all these are ever-present for us, if we remember we have them and avail ourselves of them.

All other values and virtues are derived from Goodness, Truth, and Beauty.

From our ideals, we derive our attributes of character (being) and values for living (action). From our character and values, we create a vision of "the good life," and we chose the raw materials or elements to combine and to further shape our personal universe of experience (having). How important something is to us depends on how much we value it in our vision
or scheme of things, not just value in our minds, but also nurture it in our hearts and embody it in our energy. What manifest is determined by all three: vision, heart, energy.

In our youth, we may have the privilege of encountering persons of such fine character that we're awestruck with admiration for them. We said to ourselves that we wanted to be like that, we wanted to build in those attributes of character. We projected those ideals into our personal future. So it is also in seeking friendships and mates. We delight in being awestruck with admiration about someone's character, which in turn challenges us to be worthy of their friendship and love. A person's character is what we love most about them, who they are as souls or spiritual beings, what's in their heart - this is what they give to you when they love you.

We seek to select and acquire those 1) attributes of character, 2) personal associates, and 3) possessions that most closely approximate our current understanding and recollection of what I have called in other writings "the ultimate ideas/ideals": Goodness, Truth, and Beauty.

If we observe how people choose to build their character, whom they select as personal associates, and what possessions they acquire, we will learn much about them, their spiritual awareness, and their current understanding of the ultimate ideals. How closely is the person approximating the ultimate ideals in some of their basic life-choices, or how degraded has their consciousness become. We tend to intuitively look at others' life choices as partial indicators to their consciousness, to see how much harmony there is, how much in agreement we, and what kind of future could we co-create, or would want to co-create, with them.

We are attracted to those persons and things that most closely exemplify our understanding of the ultimate ideals. We can also be attracted to those persons and things that most closely approximate our cultural programming, if we have substituted
cultural programming for our own true goals. We are not likely to achieve false goals, or to enjoy the fruits of fulfillment for long if we do achieve them. If we're not looking at character, but instead are looking at worldly attributes only - based on cultural programming, then we're in for a rude awakening when such a relationship proves shallow and not lasting. Yet many teens and young adults go through this stage, especially those with no grounding in spirituality or values clarification, so their attention is in the wrong place.

We assess or evaluate anything based on our intuitions of how closely it approximates a relevant ideal(s). We can evaluate nothing except as an intuitive act of the soul, by comparing the thing to our understanding of the ultimate ideals.

Venus shows us an aspect of intuition, comparing one thing against another and against an ideal, gives a sense of balance and right proportion, a sense of grace and ease, and contributes to being able to estimate effort. All of the above are determined intuitively.

There is a quality of eternity and unending fulfillment in achieving a true goal, or exemplifying a high ideal. The old saying that "a thing of beauty is a joy forever" reflects this fact. We're never bored with a person, object or form that perpetually reminds us of the ideals of Beauty itself (or Goodness or Truth).

Remembering the ultimate ideals and achieving close approximation of them in our creations and co-creations could be said to be much of the "game" here on planet Earth. We set our goals and become inspired according to ideals, and we have peace of mind in connection with associating with (7th house) and possessing (2nd house) what exemplifies those ideals.

We seek harmonious relations and peace with all others. Not just a negative peace (the absence of war and conflict), but a positive peace of pro-active collaboration and mutual admiration and helpfulness. Our ability to create positive peace and to harmonize is a real gift to bring to the party; our sense of how to do this is symbolized by our Venus.

Teams working on collaboration would do well to study the Venuses in charts of team members.

In creating any kind of agreement or desired future reality, look to Venus for clues on how to create win-win situations and put deals together. We also see that the old EST idea of "a world that works for everyone" could best be facilitated using Venusian indicators.

Venus in Business

Venus is the natural ruler of the 2nd house of money, also the 7th house of one-on-one relationships and, to some extent, the public at large. Business is all about relationships. Venus can not only enhance your love life, help you pick collaborators, select possessions according to your values, but also make money (often in connection with business relationships). There's a saying that "do what you love and the money will follow." However that's not enough. You have to have affinity with people, love of people, willingness to be close to them, very close to your customers and staff, to be successful in business. The more affinity you have, the more successful you'll be, because you'll communicate more, and take more and more responsibility for finding out what's going on with them and helping everyone achieve their goals in a win-win manner.

Beauty and charm also help you to be more successful in business. All things being equal, people will choose products, services and people to associate with who are more "beautiful" - as they perceive beauty on all levels. Aesthetics and charm can only help you, others love it, and you'll have more pleasure in doing what you do when you turn on the charm (magic!) and are surrounded by beauty. Charm is not about being superficial or insincere, but rather an invitation to dig deeper and find a genuine commitment to aesthetics and charm - see how these enhance your caring for people! If you think charm is
superficial or just for women, think again - consider the music of Mozart or Chopin.

Two of the most common missing pieces in business today are acknowledgement and appreciation. Everyone is under-acknowledged and under-appreciated. And these desired rewards cost nothing to give. So why don't they happen more often? - People are unconsciousness, they may have degraded values, they neglect, they indulge in abusive withhold. We need to look for - and find more to acknowledge and appreciate about others, then do it openly and sincerely, joyfully! It's all too easy to focus on the negative. But it's so pleasurable to praise the good! Praising the good in people helps reinforce and multiply the attribute praised, making the person more successful, happier, confident, healthier, more stable, more productive, friendlier. Put more attention on finding something to like or admire about everyone, no matter how lofty or mundane, and watch the momentum of growth, admiration, and affinity unfold in your life. Watch also how many conflicts, hostilities, and bad vibes just disappear.

Venus Derailed

Detours: degraded ideals and values, lack of awareness of ideals and values. Lack of harmony, disagreement. Disappointment, heartbreak, loneliness, social isolation, absence of love, love turned to hate, scorn, lack of acceptance. Fall from grace. Failure to manifest in close approximation to ideals. Lazy, driven by pleasure alone and desire for ease. Absence of charm and sociability, absence of good looks and grooming in personal presentation, absence of beauty in environment. Vanity. Disinterest or dislike of people, more interested in ideas and things than people. Temptation and seduction without delivering. Flattery, social superficiality, insincerity. Settling for less.

INTERPRETING VENUS

Venus is your ideals and values, your love ideal, qualities you build into your own character, qualities you want in a mate. Venus is your way of relating (along with other astrological factors). Venus is the feminine ideal, a man's ideal woman (along with his Moon), and the woman's ideal image of herself as a woman.

WHERE IS VENUS BY SIGN, BY HOUSE, AND BY ASPECT?

Venus by SIGN shows the nature of your affections, what you love, what you value, how you seek peace and harmony, your aesthetic ideals. The qualities of your Venus sign are what you show others in order to attract or interest them, to help them see the value of having you in their lives.

Venus by HOUSE shows where you're likely to meet potential mates and collaborators, areas of life that may be "graced," that bring you peace and harmony, and where women give you assistance.

Young adults and others seeking relationships would do well to have a complete chart reading with special attention to Venus, to validate the qualities they most need in a partner, how to attract their right partner, and where they're most likely to meet that partner.

As in all astrological factors, a spectrum of manifestation is possible - from the most exalted and masterful where the person is an exemplar - to the most perverse and degraded where the finest potential of the archetype becomes reversed through ignorance or abuse.

ASPECTS to VENUS (mathematical relationships of the other planets to Venus) and RULER OF VENUS yield additional information about values, ideals, affections, love life, and more about the nature of your mate. A Venus that's well-aspected tends toward ease in the above areas. A Venus that's stressed by aspect tends challenges in the above areas. However, challenges may be just what's needed to gain a thorough understanding of how life works in an area, and to learn how to tackle and overcome obstacles, whereas if things are too easy, we may take them for granted and not learn much. Some aspects such as the conjunction have both ease and challenge associated with them.

DWADS are a secondary Sign influence underlying the exact degree and minute of your Venus. Dwads can give outstanding supplemental information, especially for those working on deeper and more psychological levels, and can help explain why someone is not the typical Sagittarius Venus, for example. It's very useful to know the dwad under your Venus, as this deeper information tends to aid in the understanding of your values, ideals, style of expression affection, and type of close associates you seek.

RELOCATION astrology shows where to go in the continental United States and in the rest of the world to place Venus on the angles of your chart using "astro-cartography." Another system called "local space mapping," which I have researched extensively for 10 years now, shows where to go in the world to gain support for your Venusian projects - where to go to foster Venusian relationships, a beautiful home environment, gardens, artistic unfoldment. Many women like to live on their Venus lines, and feel connected to their communities there.

RELATIONSHIP COMPATIBILITY. "Synastry" analysis places the Venus of one person (P1) into the chart of another person (P2), and vice versa, showing attraction patterns. As we might expect, normally we will see one or more strong Venus interaspects in the charts of persons who are strongly attracted. Venus-Mars conjunctions are famous for sexual attraction. Venus-Moon conjunction is a very comfortable feeling of mutual admiration and compatibility, often seen in friends and family, but by itself would be insufficient for marriage.

Using another compatibility technique, the Composite Chart, the composite Venus represents the merger of two individuals' Venus's, the third energy that's formed in their coming together, and its sign and house placement are an important focal point of common values, shared aesthetics, ease, grace, and clues to how and where love flourishes between you.

PROGRESSIONS are one way to bring the natal chart up to date in present time, and show long-term developmental trends. You never lose the qualities of your Venus Sign, but the Progressed Venus shows where your affections, style of attraction and relating, and values are focused in present time, and what's "lit up" for experience in your chart now. It points toward the kind of experience you seek now on your soul's journey. Progressed Venus is especially notable for states of grace, karmic benefits, and possible angelic intervention in situations that are "close calls," especially when progresssed into an angular house (1,4,7,10). Progressions are determined conceptually and mathematically, and do not correspond to physical location of the planets in present time. Venus progresses through a sign about every 30-45 years. When Progressed Venus changes sign, this event heralds a new sub-chapter in the person's life, a new developmental phase, and many new interests arrive at this time. It is often a new chapter in terms of the person's love life, how they express affection, new relationship commitments and opportunities opening up. Progressed Venus going direct after having been progressed Rx for many years is an important turning point correcting setbacks in relationships, attractiveness, and sexuality, especially if there has been any indecision or ambivalence in these areas.

TRANSITS are another way to update the natal chart into present time. Transits are where the planets are now, and how they relate to your natal chart. Venus transits around your entire chart in about one year, and transits through each house in your chart in about one month per house. As Venus transits around your natal chart, it "lights up" the houses of your chart in succession, highlighting windows of opportunity for love, ease, pleasure, beauty and grace in that area of life. Venus transits are usually subtle. Much depends on what you do with these windows of opportunity, rather than depending on externals to determine your experience.
