LATIN: Digitalis purpurea
GOOD FOR: For menopause hot flashes, vertigo and dizziness, and headaches. Sexual dysfunction. Excellent for increased confidence and self-esteem. Has been known to stimulate Kundalini. Wounds to the heart; old grief that has refused to be processed. (do not take if on heart medication).
DID YOU KNOW:
You are a very cerebral person who relies on visuals to teach you what you need to know. Others may also see you as very "spacy" and ungrounded. In order to learn, you need to see it with your own eyes in order to understand, absorb and appreciate it. Slide show programs, Powerpoint productions, movies and film train you quite effectively. With your powerhouse brain you are able to grasp theory and philosophy, especially the more complex thought processes such as mathematics, physics and the hard sciences.
HEALTHY YOU:
You can be a genius (definition: someone who has a focus on one skill and becomes a master at it). Your mind is not practical nor necessarily rational. Like Einstein, you are a dreamer with a mission. To say you're smart is an understatement--however, harnessing this magnificent ability is the real key here. In some ways you can be likened to a cosmic radar picking up information long before the rest of us receive it. Logic is an elusive quality for you, although you can be in a narrow definition, in some areas. For example, let's say you love computers; you will be a geeker for sure! You have a love of mental activities, be it speaking, teaching, writing, reading or delving into some high, mathematical or scientific bint. Some of you are going to be super scientific and pave new inroads into unknown areas of human development. Others of you are on the other side of this coin and will blaze new trails creatively in literature and the arts. You have brains and talent--don't waste them!
UNHEALTHY YOU:
On one hand, you can be very "cosmic" and "out there" which isn't really unhealthy. However, if suffer a terrible trauma, you can "split" and go into psychosis, MPD, schizophrenia, or other unstable mental realms. This is rare, but it is possible in worst case scenarios that we hope no one ever has to experience. In real life, you can be very confused mentally and forgetful. At times, especially under stress, you question your reality or which one you're living in! Daydreaming comes naturally to you and that isn't all bad--because out of that comes a lot of creative development. However, don't languish in that state. You still are in a third dimensional body and live down here and among us. Utilize your awesome brain power, knowledge and wisdom; don't throw it away.

DESCRIPTION OF FOXGLOVE
A beautiful second-year Foxglove that grows in the English Garden planter at La Casa de Madre Tierra, The House of Mother Earth. It was from this plant that the latest mother essence of Foxglove was made and sold to people around the world.
The normal 'life-span' of Foxglove is two years; although, according to M. Grieve from The Modern Herbal, that sometimes the roots, formed thick and abundant, would throw up flowers for several seasons thereafter.
THE LEAVES: The radial leaves may be a foot long . At the base of the plant, the leaves form a long, winged 'footstalk' (this to act like an anchor to the three to four foot tall stalk so it doesn't fall over). The leaves have a slightly indented margins and sloping, lateral veins--which is a highly prominent feature of the Foxglove. The leaves are all covered with slight, downy hair upon them. The flower spike or stem has few leaves and they diminish in size from below upwards.
THE FLOWER: They are bell-shaped and tubular, usually 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches in length. The flower is slightly flattened on top, inflated (bloated) beneath, crimson outside above and paler in color beneath. The lower lip has long, dark hairs and is marked with numerous dark blood red spots, each surrounded with a white border.
THE DOCTRINE OF SIGNATURES
This is a homeopathic way of looking at a plant; not only from a symbolic standpoint, but for the modern homeopath, even from a mythical to archetypal platform also. Foxglove likes moisture in the soil. (Better: damp, better rain, better humidity). It's happiest in a woody, damp area with some shade. It does not like constant, direct sunlight in a desert type environment--the plant will, quite literally 'wilt'. (Worse: sun, heat, hot dry air). It is a thirsty plant that requires plenty of water or it will not flourish. (Thirsty person or a person who drinks plenty of water on a regular basis).
It is one stalk; and it is thick, woody, unbending and unyielding (how many people do we know like this??) People who were 'straight-laced', opinionated, unbending or unyielding to their emotions, perhaps. People who are not flexible, yielding or are unable to switch gears or change pace easily.
This plant is usually found in a group of other Foxglove; it is not a 'loner'. (Better: company, family, friends). (Worse: alone). This person would prefer people around him or her and would not like to work alone or be alone. (Isn't it interesting how many men have heart attacks after they retire from their company--their 'family' if you will? Perhaps Foxglove might be a remedy to consider for this condition).
If one looks closely at this photo of Foxglove 'cooking' in a bowl of aquifer (natural) water for one hour in directly sunlight, you can see the blood-clot like spots on the inner tubules of the flower and surrounded with white circles. What does it remind you of as you look at them? Photo: Eileen Nauman, 1996.
Animals will not eat anything beneath where a Foxglove grows because of the poisonous nature of the seeds that drop and contain the alkaloids. Perhaps the children of a Foxglove person leave home early, or run away and/or are not close to him or her because of their 'poisonous' nature that they encountered as they had to grow up under his strict, rigid, disciplinary hand?
The color of the flower is purple. Purple is a blending of the Root Chakra color of red and the Throat chakra color, blue. Blue and red, when mixed on a palette, produces purple. Is it possible we have a person with Root chakra (the family, our tribe) and speaking up and out about how we feel or giving vent to our emotions? The throat chakra sits in the larynx area and the thyroid is intimately involved in this. Does a Foxglove personality have problems venting their feelings? Giving 'voice' to their feelings--whatever they may be? Are they the stony silent type? Unable to communicate? Males have a real problem in this area via social and conditional (root chakra) training. It's no surprise that more males suffer from heart attacks than females because they've been trained not to give 'voice' to their feelings--rather, to be strong and silent and just endure. Their heart chakra blows out as a result and a heart attack is the outcome.
Foxglove/Digitalis is a drug often used after a heart attack (heart failure), or even before one in some cases, particularly cardiac arrhythmia and angina conditions. It is used to increase the contracting force of the heart muscle itself; thereby increasing circulation. It can suppress ventricular arrhythmia, increase venous tone, increase renal (kidney) blood flow, among others. From a DOS point of view, it could be said that those who have childhood dysfunction (root chakra) and conditioning patterns that they never broke or changed for the better for themselves, coupled with being unable to give voice to one's emotions, sets up the perfect Foxglove/digitalis situation: heart failure. Like cures like. Foxglove is well known to sustain heart action above and beyond the call of duty. It is one of the homeopath's preeminent heart remedies, along with Hawthorn and Cactus Grandiflorus and Aconitum Napellus, to name a few.
Foxglove grows hardy in some pretty tough places for anything to grow: sand, rocky places, roadsides and needing little real soil in which to take root. How might we parallel this to a person's life? Perhaps as a young child coming out of a 'rocky' household where little nourishment or nurturing was given (very little 'soil' in which to grow)? And yet, for this plant to grow, it needs plenty of water (emotions). We have a person who has little nurturing, care, mothering or emotional support, and yet, is filled to overflowing with feelings and emotions--but that person grows up with them all bottled up inside the--never able to 'vent' or 'give voice' to how they really feel. Like the nearly soil-less, harsh conditions they grew up in, they become likewise.
The color of the dark red blood spots on the lower lip of the flower cannot help but remind one of venous blood flow; for if we cut a vein in ourselves, it bleeds out slowly and the blood is much darker in comparison to arterial blood (which is a bright red color).
And when one looks at these spots, which are encircled in a white ring around each one with a background of purple, one thinks of blood cells; that they look like a clot. It is possible that blood clots would respond well to Foxglove? To helping the blood to clot if necessary? Or perhaps, to unclot the blood, or thin the blood so it's not like sludge in a person's veins?
Or, to look at these spots is to ask one's self: Do these stand for 'stains' that have demarcated that person's life? Each stain like a drop of blood from him/her? A bleeding out of life in some way from them? Perhaps through a heart centered event; such as loss of a loved one? A divorce? A loss of something they loved--a retirement from a much-loved job? Loss of a dearly beloved pet? Or a child? A spouse? A good friend?
If one is to simply stand and admire the outer beauty and trappings, one might say this person is a flashy dresser; or dresses richly or knows the value of good clothing or a good presentation to put on for other's. There is a joy and happiness that emanates from a Foxglove; as if, in a slight breeze, the 20 or 30 bell-like flowers move in a dancing-like motion. Does this person party a lot? Like to be around revelry and happy events? A drinker of wine? For wine is purple colored like the Foxglove blossom. Someone who may imbibe too much in wine or alcohol to reach an inner point where that brutal hand holding back all their feelings dissolve, and the alcohol allows them to 'let go'?
There is a lot of 'hair' on this plant; not only on that one, rigid, inflexible, upright stem, but on all the leaves--and within the flower itself! Hair, for me, always mean someone who can get easily irritated. The more hair on the plant, the more easily the grousing, irritability and short-temperedness. Foxglove is hairy, literally, inside and out. This person is a highly irritable person with a hair-trigger temperament. And because they like people around them, NEED them, I feel a Foxglove person gyrates from being irritable to trying to be nice to those around them because they don't want to scare them off--and then find themselves 'alone'--something that is unthinkable to them. They may end up appearing one moment to be a grouch; the next, anxious to appease those they have slighted to 'fix it' so they won't leave or abandon them.
THE HISTORY OF FOXGLOVE
Probably one of the better known 'herbs' from our long history of herb use, Foxglove splashed onto the scene in a most dramatic way, befitting it's Doctrine of Signature. This showy plant can't be missed. In early summer, the plant in its second year stands three to four feet tall with the corolla flower having a platform for bees to land on (long, tubular-shaped flower) overflowing on one spike. They can be purple, white, yellow or pink flowers with dark red spots on their protruding lower lip.
It was originally known as "Folks-glove", the 'glove' of the 'good folks' or fairies whose favorite haunts were said to be damp, woody glens where Foxglove loved to grow and flourish. This was mentioned in the list of plants in the time of Edward III.
Its Norwegian name, Revbielde (Foxbell), alludes to the Fox. There is a northern legend that bad fairies gave the blossoms to the fox that he might put them on his toes to tread more softly among the chicken roosts and capture an unsuspecting hen or rooster.
The earliest form of the word is Anglo-Saxon "foxes glofa" (the glove of the fox). In Ireland it gained the name 'Dead Man's Thimbles' because the legend there ran that the marks on the Foxglove were a warning of its powerful juices. In Scotland, it forms the badge of the Farquharsons. In Germany, the name Fingerhut (thimble) was suggested by Leonhard Fuchs (a German herbalist of the 16th century) in 1542. Later, the Latin adjective, Digitalis (from Digitabulum, a thimble) was the designation given the plant.
During its early days, Foxglove was said to be used for people who had 'fallen from high places' for use as a 'bruise herb.' The expressed juice was used in scrofulous (abscess condition) swellings. Bruised leaves were used for old sores and ulcers. Dodoens in 1554 boiled it in wine as an expectorant. Culpepper said the bruised leaves were used by the Italians on fresh wounds, and that the juice of Foxglove cleansed old sores to clean them up, dry them and heal them. He also goes on to say of Foxglove, that "I am confident that an ointment of it is one of the best remedies for a scabby head that is."
The earliest mention of Foxglove by M. Grieve in her book, A Modern Herbal, is from Welsh manuscripts of the 16th Century by Fuchs and Tragus in their Herbals. In 1750 it was introduced to the London (England) Pharmacopoeia. It did not receive much popularity until later, when Dr. William Withering began to study and use it.
In 1775 Dr. William Withering began to experiment with an old family herbal 'recipe' and one of the herbs was Foxglove. In 1785 he published Account of the Foxglove and Some of Its Medicinal Uses. He detailed 200 cases of dropsy and heart failure that he'd successfully treated with this herb, along with research notes and the part of the plant that produced the strongest medicinal effects on a person.
In North Wales at that time, Foxglove leaves were used to darken the lines engraved on stone floors which was in fashion at that time. It gave the stone floors a 'mosaic-like' appearance. Foxglove was cultivated and collected for commercial purposes in the Harz Mountains and the Thuringian Forest.
He knew that Foxglove, as a medicinal herb, had poisonous properties, so the 'therapeutic dose' had to be very carefully administered and followed. Further analysis followed, and the cardiac glycosides "digoxin" and "digitoxin" were discovered and extracted. To this day, these are still used in treatment of heart conditions. Other plants, such as the opium poppy had morphine isolated from it in 1803. Quinine was extracted from Peruvian Bark (Hahnemann's famous Cinchona or China homeopathic remedy). Emetine was extracted from the bush Ipecacuanha (known to homeopaths as the same and to the housewife as "Ipecac"). Atropine was extracted from Deadly Nightshade (homeopathically known as Belladonna) and Aconitine from Monkshood (homeopathically known as Aconitum Napellus). We have used a lot of 'poisons' in a homeopathic variation (they are succussed to a point where there is no longer any of the crude substance left). But a poison is still a poison. And Foxglove is such a plant: poisonous.
For commercial purposes in that time, the leaves could be used, but so were the seeds. Leaves were only picked from a two-year old plant, when the spike was in bloom and about two-thirds of the spike was in flower. It was at this time that they discovered, while the plant was ripening its seeds, that the medicinal properties of the plant was in its most active state. Only the upper stem leaves are collected, not the bottom ones. Again, through testing, they found the upper leaves to contain the most alkaloids.
Any leaves that were not perfect--such as being eaten into by insects, diseased or tinged with purple or in some way, discolored, were never used. Leaves of a first year plant were never used, either, because the alkaloids in them were too low. The weather for picking the leaves had to be dry--not damp. Low humidity. No rain.
GROWING FOXGLOVE IN YOUR MEDICINE GARDEN
M. Grieve suggests the following for best results of growing Foxglove. It prefers well-drained, loose soil of a siliceous (sand) origin with some 'slight shade.' They have found the plant's medicinal power is increased if in direct sunlight, rather than partial shade.
The seeds are so tiny, that she suggests that they be mixed with some fine sand and then sprinkled on some topsoil and then covered by a thin layer of soil. When the seedlings are up, she asserts that they are best transplanted during damp weather and should be placed six to nine inches apart. They should be sown in the Spring and they will not blossom until the following year.
The true medicinal type, Foxglove purpurea, must be dull pink or magenta-colored. They cannot be pale colored, white or spotted externally.
Most people will not plant the seeds; they may well buy a first year plant of Foxglove from their local nursery. This can be easily transplanted directly into your garden. If you buy it in the Spring, chances are it may already have a small spike on it with a few flowers. Foxglove lives only for two years. When it comes up in the Spring of the second year, it should become three to four feet tall with luxurious blooms on a large, thick spike. After it flowers this second year, the plant then dies after making seed.
Depending upon where you live; if Foxglove can tolerate full sunlight near a wood/forest area, that is the best place to plant it. However, living in Arizona, these handsome plants cannot deal with the glaring sunlight and hundred-degree temperatures; so if you live in a hot, dry arid region, be sure to plant them in a three-quarter to completely shaded area and water them far more often.
MEDICINAL ACTION AND USES
Foxglove contains alkaloids that can treat heart problems. It increases the activity of the heart muscle and tissue. It improves heart circulation.
When the herb is taken, there is contraction of the heart and narrowing (constriction) of the arteries. This causes the blood pressure to rise very high; depending upon how much is taken. Even in a 'moderate' dose, this occurs. This whole process takes about twelve hours.
After the initial ingestion of this herb, the pulse is slows considerably. It can cause an irregular pulse to become regular. Interestingly, (and not surprising to a homeopath at all), is that taking Digitalis (Foxglove) over a prolonged period of time creates a 'proving' in the person by bringing back irregular heartbeat, lowered blood pressure and gastrointestinal irritation. If overused, the heart suffer hypertrophy (enlarged heart muscle). Other 'side-effects' of it seeing all objects blue and other sense disturbances.
THE HOMEOPATHY OF FOXGLOVE
Known as Digitalis, its Latin variation, and looking at Clarke's "A Dictionary of Practical Materia Medica, Volume 1" he says the following of Foxglove:
CAUSATION (this names the causes that Foxglove would be useful in): High living. Sexual abuse or sexual excess. Alcohol.
THE MIND (our mental/emotional symptoms)
MIND: Anxious, low-spirited, tearful, wants to be alone, tries to escape if others force themselves on her. Anxiety as if conscience-troubled. Anxious and concentrated sadness with sleeplessness at night, owing to pains at the heart; for instance from unhappy love, especially in women of brown complexions, firm and obstinate dispositions. In such cases far preferable to Ignatia (Teste). Extreme anguish, especially in the evening, with disposition to weep and great fear of the future. Gloomy and peevish. Indisposed to speak; inclination to lassitude (weakness or exhausted feeling). Remorse. Tearful moroseness; with sensation of internal uneasiness. Indifference. Great love of labor (working, Type A). Weakness of memory. Nocturnal delirium and agitation. Sadness from music.
From: Boericke's Materia Medica and Repertory:
MIND: Despondency; fearful; anxious about the future. Dullness of sense. Every shock strikes the epigastrium (stomach region). Melancholia. Dull, lethargic with slow pulse.
From: Lotus Materia Medica by R. Murphy, ND:
MIND: Sadness with sleeplessness from unhappy love (broken love-affair/divorce). Lascivious thoughts in old men with enlarged prostate. Fearful. Feels as if he would fly to pieces. Fear of suffocation at night.
CLINICAL INDICATIONS:
From: Lotus Materia Medica, Murphy, R., ND
Amaurosis. Angina pectoris, Asthma, Bright's disease. Cyanosis, Delirium tremens (found in alcoholics). Dropsy. Fevers. Gonorrhea. Headache. Heart disorders. Hydrocele. Hydrocephalus. Impotence. Jaundice. Lungs, congestion. Melancholy. Memory lost. Meningitis. Noises in head. Phimosis. Prostate, enlarged. Prostration. Ptyalism. Spermatorrhea. Toothache. Urinary disorders. Vision, disorders.
OTHER (interesting tidbits):
Boerick's Materia Medica and Repertory:
"Comes into play in all diseases where the heart is primarily involved, where the pulse is weak, irregular, intermittent, abnormally slow, and dropsy (swelling/too much fluid in the body) of external and internal (lungs, legs/feet/hands as found in congestive heart failure) parts. Weakness and dilation of the myocardium (heart muscle). Its greatest indication is in failure of compensation and especially when auricular fibrillation has set in. Slow pulse in recumbent (lying down) posture, but irregular and dicrotic (double pulse or having one heartbeat for two arterial pulsations). Auricular flutter and fibrillation especially when subsequent to (having) rheumatic fever. Heart block, very slow pulse. Other symptoms of organic heart disease, such as great weakness and sinking of strength, faintness, coldness of skin and irregular respiration; cardiac irritability and ocular (eye) troubles after (smoking/chewing) tobacco. Jaundice from induration and hypertrophy of the liver frequently call for Digitalis. Jaundice with heart disease. Faint, as if dying. Bluish (cyanotic) appearance of face. Cardiac muscle failure when asystole is present. Stimulates the heart's muscles, increases force of systole, increases length. Prostration from slight exertion. Collapse."
From Clarke's MM:
"There are three main symptoms in the Digitalis pathogenesis which should be borne in mind: (a) slow weak, irregular and intermittent pulse. (2) Enlarged, sore, painful liver. (3) White, pasty stools....Discharged blood coagulates slowly or not at all. Distended veins in eyes, ears, lips and tongue. Blue skin. Digitalis is suited to the climacteric period (menopause); sudden flushes of heat followed by great debility. Least motion creates heart palpitations. Nervous, lymphatic constitutions (soft, flabby body).
HEART SYMPTOMS
From Clarke's Materia Medica:
HEART: Acceleration of the movements of the heart, with palpitations that can be heard (with slow pulse), anguish, and contraction in the sternum (breastbone). Very slow pulse. On rising up in bed pulse becomes much more frequent and irregular. Irregular and intermittent pulse. Dull uneasiness in the various part of the heart region with sensation of weakness in forearm. feeling of slight confusion of heart, especially on moving, with painful sensation of weakness in wrist and forearms. Sudden sensation as though heart stood still, with great anxiety and necessity for holding breath after dinner; must keep perfectly still.
Peculiar sensation as thought heart is standing still; single, violent, slow heartbeats, with sudden violent heart in back of head/occiput, and transient unconsciousness (the whole event lasting only a moment). Shifting pains in heart. Oppression, must breathe deeper. Heart's action has lost its force; beats more frequent, intermittent, irregular. Palpitation easily excited on going up slight ascent (stairs, a hill, a slight incline). Heart seems to dilate slowly; palpitation at each movement of body; sight uneasiness at heart, cold sweats. Constant pain or anguish at heart, with palpitation, WORSE by exercise or mental emotion; at times WORSE without apparent cause, when perfectly at rest; paroxysms accompanied by sinking sensation. Face purple; fainting, believes she is dying; dizziness, ringing in ears; sharp pain in LEFT shoulder and LEFT arm, tingling in arm and fingers.
Paroxysms (spasm) come sometimes at night, with suffocation, wakes up in anguish; terrifying dreams. Heart so weak that even sitting up in bed has caused fatal fainting. Attacks of angina brought on by any slight careless movement, especially of arms in an upward direction. Inexpressible anxiety with fainting. For a moment, the heart seems to stand still, and then several rapid and violent pulsations occur,, with sensation as if heart had torn itself loose and were swaying to and fro by a thin thread. Cyanosis (blueness around mouth, eyes, finger or toenail beds). Frightful stitches in region of the heart, coming on every fifteen minutes, lasting only five or six seconds each time.
MODALITIES OF FOXGLOVE/DIGITALIS:
BETTER: when stomach is empty, and sitting in open, fresh air, from rest, being in cool (air conditioned) air, lying flat on back, or sitting erect.
WORSE: at night, upon waking in the morning, after meals, from cold food/drink, after drinking anything, from drinking alcohol, from any physical or mental (emotional) motion that can produce fatal collapse, from being raised up in bed, changes of weather, getting heated, in a room, from touch or pressure, lachrymation (tears in eyes, eyes watering), from music (sadness from hearing music), from sexual abuse or excess. Great sensitiveness to cold air, cold weather.
Here is the English Garden Planter. You can see not only the dramatic Foxglove towering over all the other plants, but in the foreground, the pale yellow of Colville's Columbine and nearby, the bright red and yellow drama of Crimson Columbine. Photo: Eileen Nauman, 1996.
PROVING:
STAGE 2 PROVER'S SYMPTOMS OF TAKING THE FLOWER ESSENCE, FOXGLOVE by Eileen Nauman

Only the blossoms floating on the water's surface for one hour, and then strained off, and fifty-percent brandy was used to create the mother essence. It was from this bottle that the provers took four drops under the tongue, and then five minutes later, another four drops. The information gathered here, as you will see, closely parallels many times, the provings done by the homeopaths; although to a much milder degree because only the energy of the flower blossoms in the water was utilized.

Heightened awareness of one of our 5 senses: n/a
Other: n/a
Major Emotional Feeling: All (my feelings were) put on hold.
Major Physical sensation: Relaxing or prior to sleep - shut down.
Major Pattern of imbalance that it can address: Restful, (after discussion - It could be useful in Hospice, and after Near death experiences.)
Major positive healing pattern: Enlightenment.
Major essence attunement message you received: Source of all is easily within by being without. (Translated by Eileen Nauman--meaning that all the answers we seek are inside of us. We don't need any person outside of us to give us the answers we need).
Other (any other thoughts you want to put down that were not asked): I really liked this place (that the Foxglove essence created for him)
Symptoms experienced: Sweet perfume taste - LEFT arm felt "light" sensitive - not heat. Can feel my breast bone (sternum), lower spine sensitive - mentally, I'm very active, but with subdued emotions. I feel a HIGH-energy (frequency-wise) cone shaped from my head--crown chakra--to a big open cave-like (inside me) receptacle (dark brown in color. All this was slow coming).
2nd shot of Foxglove essence: I Feel UTOPIA - I like this! - I don't want to waste my time writing. I want to be THERE - circle of white penetrating cool light is permeating my whole self - (not body, more spiritual). I feel an overwhelming "LOVE", flashes of the "heavens" all around and through me - (STARS) - (ENERGY) - (I hear beautiful music - I can't describe it - it is so profound). Brings tears of joy to me, - Earth seems far away - I'm near BRIGHT Light, (2 minute warning) - I need to come back - I heard Eileen way far away - I don't want to - I feel isolated from all my troubles.
OTHER NOTES AND IMPRESSIONS TAKEN BY EILEEN NAUMAN WHILE PROVER SPOKE OF HIS EXPERIENCES:
MF (male) had a "near death experience" after the second four drops of the essence were placed under his tongue. He was experiencing a death transit which consists of white light, a loving and overwhelming presence surrounding him, he heard beautiful music of the spheres around him and all this earthly struggles were left behind. Our voices (the moderator) seemed far away. Earth seemed far away to him as he move toward a bright, white light.
His emotions were 'subdued. ' His mental activity was focused. He could have a number of ideas all at once but could shift from one single idea to multiple ideas and still hold the original direction he was flowing in mentally.
There was a CHEST emphasis, energy flowing from the Crown Chakra into his Heart Chakra. It was large, dark and empty; a dark brown color emphasis with a SLOW onset--very subtle. At the end of this proving he did NOT want to come back to the third dimensional reality with us in the room. His LEFT arm was very sensitive to heat, light and energy and there was more awareness of it. His lower BACK and MIDDLE of the back (thoracic and lumbar spinal column area) was sensitive and he said it felt the nerves and bones were trying to "straighten out."
GS (female):
Date: 3/28/1997
Name of Remedy: Foxglove, Purple
Primary color: Whites, silvers into Black Canopy
Chakra(s) influenced by remedy: Crown Chakra (secondary), Root Chakra (primary)
Circle areas affected in you: Physical, emotional, spiritual.
Was there (list appropriate sensations/emotions): spinning (tight circle counterclockwise), rocking sensation (right to left) , upper, calmness, peacefulness, energy boost, sexual feeling, and heightened hearing.
Other: Great taste, completely cleared out coffee flavor in my mouth instantly. I had really wanted to drink my first cup of coffee with only 2 - 3 sips, had to wait - found I didn't mind waiting.
Major Emotional Feeling: Just kept thinking how I was enjoying the great color spark light display.
Major Physical sensation: Energy flow went down spine to Root Chakra and it started spinning. The energy rose back up and out of crown in sparks. Then pulsing in Root Chakra started (orgasmic but attention kept going to sparks that were bright whites and silvers going out into a black canopy) - WOW.
Major Pattern of imbalance that it can address: Root Chakra repair. Sexual dysfunction. Lack of an orgasm?
Major positive healing pattern: Opening chakras, Root Chakra repair, Frigidity, Opening to outside higher level of consciousness. This could melt an iceberg. If a person was having trouble letting go of a loved one that had died - If they were frozen by another's death or had another spirit frozen here on the Earth plane - RELEASE.
Major essence attunement message you received: Realizing the stars are also inside of you and to be appreciated like the star in this star night sky on out to galactic center.
Other (any other thoughts you want to put down that were not asked): You can live with the stars and be in your Earth walk - it's ok to let dead loved ones go to another realm of the next star life. Just Living your own Stars keeps your soul together with all your loved ones.
OTHER NOTES AND IMPRESSIONS TAKEN BY EILEEN NAUMAN WHILE GAIL SPOKE OF HER EXPERIENCES:
I was fascinated that MFand GC had that same sensation of being completely encapsulated within themselves and not needing anything or anyone outside of themselves. This was not detachment nor was it disconnection sensation/feeling for them. Rather, it was a sense of inner fulfillment that whatever problem they had, they could solve or resolve on some deep, inner level of themselves; which is a profound and excellent way to heal. I would postulate that for people who want to reach new depths of awareness within themselves, that this essence could help them get there to make those very important realizations or connections.

Major essence attunement message you received: bring on the world.
OTHER NOTES AND IMPRESSIONS TAKEN BY EILEEN NAUMAN WHILE NINA SPOKE OF HER EXPERIENCES:
Nina liked the fact that Foxglove gave her such a power, confident lift. I suspect, knowing that because the Crown and Root Chakra are involved intimately with this essence (as well as the Throat Chakra), that in the 'middle' of all of this is the Heart Chakra--which is the one chakra that connects our 'lower being' with our 'more enlightened/spiritually inclined higher being.' The Heart Chakra sits at the fulcrum between all the chakras, literally and figuratively speaking.
She also had the sexual component in her proving experience--and that holds with what homeopathic provers from last century also experienced.
RM (female):
3-28-97
Name of Remedy: Foxglove
Symptoms experienced: I felt WARMTH in the root chakra and navel chakra--warming, gentle and expanding ooze. Sort of like an expanding BALL. Deep stillness. A solid core within myself. Cave-like feeling internally. It was quiet, peaceful feeling (dying). I feel every movement of my heart beat. It's Kundalini like. I heard and knew all.
It would be good for use in: The dying experience.
It would address the imbalance: Hyperactivity, nervousness, depression and sexual dysfunction.
OTHER NOTES AND IMPRESSIONS TAKEN BY EILEEN NAUMAN WHILE ROSEMARIE SPOKE OF HER EXPERIENCES:
She also had a Kundalini-like feeling, implicating, again, the Root Chakra where this energy is coiled and resides in all of us, has been stimulated by this essence. The fact that she said she was feeling the dying process was fascinating. And, feeling her heartbeat is in line with homeopathic provings done on Foxglove last century.
EN (female):
Date: 3-28-97
Name of Remedy: Foxglove, Purple
Symptoms experienced:
I felt dizziness (not vertigo) and I wanted to fall to the LEFT. There was tingling in both of my feet. There seemed to be more energy down there, more movement of energy in my feet.
The energy moved up, pulsing from my feet into my Root Chakra. The picture of veins in the legs was shown to me. Venous stasis? I experienced, at this time, a rocking sensation, forward and back.
My face feels HOT, like I'm flushing. A menopausal hot flash kind of heat. The room I'm in seems stuffy and overheated to me. I don't like it. I want/need more fresh air! My right nostril of my nose was stuffed up and suddenly cleared--I can breathe through it now.
I can feel the pulse in my body. I can feel the decided beating of my heart throughout my body. It's gentle, but there. Especially on the LEFT side of my body.
I want AIR. Air hunger. I want COOL moving air against my face. Hot flash sensation with air hunger.
The energy of this essence moved quickly, but not aggressively.
Major Pattern of Imbalance That It Can Address: Menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, the need for fresh air, vein-related problems (?), poor circulation, especially in the lower extremities. People with heart problems, congestive heart failure (?) or Raynaud's Disease (poor circulation in hands/feet/fingers/toes. Dizziness that makes the person want to lean or fall to the LEFT. Left-sided symptoms.
COMMENTS: I did not check out any proving info from any homeopathic materia medicas before taking this essence. Only afterward, much to my surprise and pleasure, I saw that many of the symptoms I was experiencing were the same as homeopathic provers regarding "menopausal" symptoms. It says that Foxglove essence can be used for menopausal symptoms in other women--and this one will be added to our slowly growing "menopause" essences in our Natural Essence Materia Medica on-line.
Also, the fact I saw veins in the legs was interesting and later, to see that venous circulation, especially in the lower extremities, was also indicated in the homeopathic materia medicas, also.
J (male):
Date: 1995 (He was taking my 5-day medical astrology seminar and as one of our experiments, the group went out and sat with a particular plant each was drawn to. Jay was drawn to our Foxglove. Here's his report on his experience:)
Name of the Remedy: Foxglove, Purple
When meditating with the plant: "Releasing sadness and grief; helping with the feeling of a loss of a spiritual connection. "Image of fairies dancing and flying around using the flowers as hats."
Drinking the liquid:
A band headache began to develop around the forehead, third eye (brow chakra) area with pressure around the eyes.
Impression of balance the anterior and posterior pituitary gland.
This is a blending of the doctor of nature and the doctor of man.
It integrates the spiritual into the physical.
Physically: experienced frequent urination, having to get up three times in the night (not normal).
OTHER NOTES AND IMPRESSIONS BY EILEEN NAUMAN ABOUT J'S EXPERIENCES:
The fact that in M. Grieve's book, she mentions the old myths/legends of fairies dancing around the Foxglove and Jay also perceives this--is simply amazing! What are the chances???.....
ANECDOTAL CASES:
CASE #1 from RC:
" I also really wanted to begin the homeopathic you worked up for me, and needed to come off coffee (a tragic addiction I boosted while out there ;O), so I stopped taking the proving essence for now, and began Foxglove to stop my caffeine cravings (wow... that stuff was great!!! I usually suffer migraines and exhaustion, and other symptoms... but, nada on this essence! Awesome!). I just wanted to perhaps add something to the rep. on Foxglove... I think it has an added benefit of reducing the desire for alcohol. I took some for only two days, a couple of hits per day, and then tried to drink a beer (which I really love on occasion), and it tasted really bad to me. I could not finish it. It has been three days now, and I have no desire to drink anything alcoholic in nature. Even the essences taste bitter to me now."
EILEEN'S COMMENT:
Thanks, it's real, live experiences like this, that we like to post on the web page for the essence--it will go there :-) That's wonderful. I'm thinking that foxglove, since it is so aligned with heart/emotions/feeling issues that it satisfies the addictive craving (in my book, addictions are about loss of love that you aren't getting, or you got a message when young that you were unlovable; and the addiction (comfort foods/drinks) fill in that wound but don't fix it. I feel Foxglove has that kind of ability and slowly, but surely, I am seeing it--but only because people give us feedback :-)
Foxglove not only stops craving for coffee, but alcohol (tentatively) as well. More cases must come in before we can verify the alcohol possibility--but if it does that, then this could help people who are alcoholic's cut their craving for liquor.
