LATIN: Solidago virguarea
GOOD FOR: Goldenrod take over. Whatever 'black cloud' is hanging over you from a love-relationship sense, Meadow Goldenrod will pick up your spirits and make you feel that things aren't as bad as you think they are. It puts a positive 'spin' on the most bleak of situations--that is not to say it puts you into denial. No, it simply SHIFTS your focus from the negatives of something into a more positive over view. A must, when experience love-relationship problems, divorce or separation.
DID YOU KNOW:
To say the least, you are a mental giant. You think a lot--maybe too much. Your mind is sharp, curious, quick to jump and make up your mind about something. You do very well in academic surroundings. And you're good at memorizing things. Able to learn in classroom situations, you are a "book learner" type. Verbal by nature, you can communicate well in speaking as well as writing. Your world consists of using logic and rationalization. A prove-it-to-me kind of person.
THE HEALTHY YOU:
You're a gut-hunch kind of person whether you realize it or not. A lot of your decisions are based upon primal instinct which may or may not even tweak you consciously. However, you're a wonderful amalgam of rational mind (left brain) and right brain (instincts and intuition) IF you want to be. If you are truly in balance, you become very "whole-brained", utilizing both hemispheres of your brain to a very high degree. Not only can you know the answer to an Algebra problem before doing the math on it, you can also do the math to prove how you know the answer! That's a pretty neat trick!
THE UNHEALTHY YOU:
Insomnia can dog your heels because you are the one that gets the "gerbil running on the wheel" at night, and you can't shut off your thoughts. They just keep rolling along even though you'd like some sleep! You can get dogged, stuck and very stiff-necked about your belief system. Worse, you will be arrogant about it and you're right and the rest of the world is wrong. It's "my way or no way...." kind of blinders-on attitude. The old saying: You are cut off from the neck down, implies that you allow your logic and rational to rule you and you suppress your emotions--not a good thing in the long run!

MEADOW GOLDENROD: When I discovered this essence, my husband and I were trekking the High Sierra mountains. We were hiking along the Truckee River when I spotted a field of yellow in the late October afternoon. Thrilled that the flowers were on private property and not forest land, I asked for and receive approval by the owner to make an essence from this beautiful wildflower.
And despite popular belief, Goldenrod does NOT cause hay fever! Because this plant is so prolific and found in many parts of the US in the Fall when many allergy sufferers have their nose blowing and eyes watering, Goldenrod automatically gets blamed for it!
As I sat with my friends on that gentle slope, the clear, cool water of the Truckee River a few feet away, the sunlight warming on a cool October day, the Goldenrod made me feel very glad to be alive. I don't know why I should be surprised when, after bottling the mother essence, and I drank what was left over (about an ounce), that the happy yellow flowers wouldn't continue their Doctrine of Signature inside of me.
Dave and I resumed our hike down the Truckee and about half an hour after drinking the left over essence, I suddenly felt as if I were, quite literally, walking on air. My step became very light, bouncy and as if there was no weight in my legs or feet at all! Then, this sensation moved up my legs, into the center of my body. The moment it hit my solar plexus and heart, I felt like shouting for the pure joy of being alive. Never had I ever experienced such a profound, swift, sensation.
I was walking on air, in a euphoric cloud of joy for several hours after that 'hit' from the mother essence of the Meadow Goldenrod. I have, since then, used it on animals and humans who were sad--usually due to heartbreak--and I watched the magic of the Meadow Goldenrod take over. Stage 1 proving
Description: Bright yellow-gold group of flowers in a soggy meadow that bordered the Truckee River, CA. There was a "patch" of them, growing very close to one another. A bright spot of yellow. It is a cluster of numerous flower heads that are like a spike or cluster-diamond shape at the top of the plant with long, basal leaves of medium green.
Date: 10-7-94
Location: Truckee River, CA, near Lake Tahoe, California. A sharply inclined meadow that had underground springs that made it damp and almost marshy conditions. I had to sit on a rock in order not to get my pants damp as I worked with the Goldenrod's.
Weather: full sun, with a few high cirrus clouds now and then, 60's--a beautiful Fall day.
Astrological Phenomena: Moon was in Scorpio. Mercury will go retrograde tomorrow.
FLOWER DESCRIPTION
PETALS: They are a bright, gold yellow, tiny and in a cluster or grouping--diamond shaped and with a "point" at the end of the blooming cluster of flowerets. It reminds me of an "explosion" since there is only one bloom on each plant, at the top of it. Each bloomlet has a green bottom half and then a yellow upper half with tiny, spike-like petals--too many to count--again, the idea of an "explosion" where everything is thrown upward and outward.
STAMENS: Bright yellow color like the petals.
STEM: woody, RED color, not very flexible at any part of the stem, even near the top where the cluster of flowers is located. This is a strong stem in order to hold that huge cluster of flowers at the top. When the breeze blows, the whole plant sways slightly. Stem is ROUND and a burgundy/red color from the bottom up to the top where the cluster of flowers is at.
LEAVES: Medium green, basil shaped, slightly hairy on front and back of leaf, although it is slightly smoother on top, and rougher feeling on the underside of the leaf. All leaves raise UPWARD. Everything on this plant is UPWARD. Leaves are spaced alternately on the stem.

CAN HELP
1. People who have a closed heart chakra.

3. Tuning on the six senses to blazing life.
4. Working with the solar plexus chakra to release old negativity in order to bring in the joy of Life.
5. Make opinionated people more flexible and compromising.
6. Help to communicate our feelings from the solar plexus region.
7. Appreciating life and helping those who are depressed.
8. Can help those who have allergies to Goldenrod or other plant forms.
OTHER: As I worked with getting the flower essence, a big black carpenter ant kept climbing up on one my one flower identification book which was on the granite rock where I sat while I was journeying into the Goldenrod. It kept fall back into the grass which the book was sitting against--several times before she gave up and left.
TASTE: Mildly woody taste. It leaves an ASTRINGENT taste after a few minutes on the tip of the tongue, but it's not bitter, though. It's as if to dry up or make my tongue want to cling to the center roof of my mouth.
RESEARCH
I took about 1 ounce of what was left of the Goldenrod essence. About 1 hour later, I felt my heart chakra burst open and I felt so incredibly happy I was almost dizzy with joy. Not only that, but my step was lighter, I FELT lighter in all respects. Then, my five senses ripened, became sharper and more obvious. I could feel my feet stepping onto Mother Earth, felt the contact and the subtleties of the contact. I could feel the sun more on my face, the breeze was more noticeable. Smells became more obvious and each one, singular and wonderful. I felt as if I were walking on air, so carefree and full of joy that I was bubbling over with the feeling. There is no doubt this flower is a heart chakra/joy/six senses remedy.

CB

Hi Eileen,
Just wanted to let you know how it went with the Goldenrod in the last 24 hrs of DAY 1 of my experiment with this flower essence.
Took it last evening. Felt nothing particular. We went to bed around 11:30 pm. I went to the bathroom as usual just before. Over the next 2 hours of rare insomnia (and I had been sleepy and ready to go to bed before then), had to get up 4 times to urinate, each time copiously, not sure where all that water was coming from, and KEPT coming from. The last time, my feet were very hot, I turned on the light in the next room and the lower legs and feet were red. Hands also hot. I think I had passed all the water I had in my body, so went back to bed and went to sleep.
When I got up in the morning around 7:45 am, walked into the kitchen, had horrible, disabling pains in my left lower leg/ankle/foot area. Then a few minutes later, horrible pains in my right front thigh, then an hour later pain in my right knee. All new, no injuries ever in these areas. Wow! Have been as normal since midmorning, approximately 14 hrs after taking the NE.
I can't say that I'm depressed today, maybe a bit more emotionally resilient. I'd like to make up a homeopathic version of this flower essence. CB
DAY 2
2nd day, took one drop only.
Got up at night to go to the bathroom once, copious amount of water, not usual, and again out of proportion to amount of water consumed in the evening.
Went to sleep fine, but woke up about 4 hours later and could not go back to sleep for 2 hours.
Feeling somber but still emotionally resilient and able to handle challenges.
I looked up Solidago (goldenrod) in Lotus Materia Medica. It seems that with the Goldenrod NE I'm getting some of the proving symptoms, and some of the Homeopathy remedy healing symptoms.
Original substance ----- Flower Essence ---- Homeopathic remedy
(in nature) (suffused, diluted) (diluted and succussed)
Indications for the homeopathic remedy, and proving symptoms would include: scanty urine, need for catheterization, insomnia.
I had no urinary or sleep symptoms before taking the flower essence, but did have them afterward: copious urination, beyond recent fluid intake, forcing getting up several times during the night, and insomnia.
DAY 3
I didn't take a drop yesterday (one drop the day before, 1 time). I felt dry all over, inside and out, even like my internal organs were dry, especially my heart, if that can be experienced. I think I lost too much water the days before. No amount I could drink did anything for it. I'm feeling dried out and somber, but glad to have had the experience since I'd been attracted to the Goldenrod since you mentioned it a month or two ago. CB
